Silence reigned in the small room.
A five-year-old boy lay on the snow-white sheet, his eyes wide and tired.

Doctors had told the parents that the operation was their last chance.
The nurses were preparing him for anesthesia when the boy whispered softly:
— Can… can I see Archie?
“Who’s Archie, dear?” one of the nurses asked in surprise.
“It’s my dog. I miss him so much. Please…” The boy’s lips trembled.
“You know, dear, animals aren’t allowed in the hospital. You’re already very weak, try to understand…” she tried to explain.
The boy turned his face and tears shone in his eyes:
—But I… I might never see him again.
These words pierced the nurse’s heart.
She exchanged glances with her colleagues and, surprising even herself, agreed:
— Okay. Just for a minute.
An hour later, Archie’s parents brought him in. As soon as he saw his owner, the dog ran to the bed, jumped on it, and snuggled up to him.
He, for the first time in many weeks, smiled and hugged the dog tightly.
Doctors and nurses watched the scene with teary eyes: the friendship between man and dog was stronger than pain and fear.
But suddenly, Archie was on alert. His fur stood on end, and he jumped out of bed and ran to the corner of the room.
There was the surgeon who was to perform the operation.
The dog barked so fiercely that it seemed ready to bite the doctor.
“Get that thing out of here!” the surgeon shouted, backing away.
The colleagues tried to calm the dog, but then one of the doctors looked closely at the surgeon and suddenly understood the reason for that behavior 😱😱
The doctor smelled something… a strong, penetrating smell of alcohol.
“My God…” the anesthesiologist murmured, looking at the surgeon. “Are you drunk?!”
A deathly silence fell over the room.
The parents turned pale, the nurses looked at each other in shock.
Archie continued to growl, as if protecting his little owner.
A few minutes later, everything became clear: the surgeon had indeed shown up for duty drunk.
He was immediately removed and lost his license.
The surgery was postponed.
The boy was entrusted to another doctor and a few days later the operation was successful.
Afterwards everyone said: Archie was not just a faithful friend — he became a guardian angel.
If it weren’t for him, the outcome could have been the most tragic.
