Trabalhei no exterior por três anos, enviando dinheiro para minha irmã para que ela cuidasse da minha mãe, mas ao voltar para casa vi em que condições terríveis minha mãe vivia 😢😢

For three years, I lived and worked abroad. It wasn’t an easy decision—leaving my hometown, leaving my mother alone—but at that moment, I had no choice.

I knew my mother was no longer young and that she had health problems.

But my younger sister assured me that she would stay close by, that she would take care of my mother.

We agreed: I would send money every month so my mother would have everything she needed—food, medicine, bills.

And my sister would just stay around, taking care of and helping with the housework.

And so three years passed: I worked from dawn to dusk, saved every penny, sent the money, and believed that my mother was in good hands at home.

This summer I decided to make a surprise.

I didn’t tell anyone—not my mother or my sister. I bought the ticket, arrived in my hometown, and went straight to our apartment.

In my hand I held my old key.

I put it in the lock, turned it—and the door opened easily.

I walked in and immediately smelled an unpleasant odor.

But the real shock was what I saw in my mother’s room.

My mother was lying on the bed, covered with old cloths.

She wore a faded green T-shirt that had once fit her well but was now loose.

His face was haggard, his hair completely gray, his skin aged, as if he had suddenly gained ten years.

Chaos reigned around the bed: bags, dirty clothes, empty medicine boxes, papers, trash.

The smell was suffocating—a mixture of mold, medicine, and accumulated grime from a long-neglected room.

“Mommy…” I ran to her. “What’s going on here? Why are you like this? I was sending you money!”

She looked at me with a tired look and sighed deeply:

— Daughter… I waited so long for you. But all this time I lived alone.

Your sister… she came rarely.

I never saw your money. All I had was my retirement.

With that I bought medicine, a little food… And the rest — all by myself, all by myself.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. So for three years, while I worked and sent every penny, my sister just kept the money?

She didn’t take care of her mother, she didn’t buy food, she didn’t pay for anything… and my mother kept quiet so as not to worry me.

I looked around. It all became clear: my mother lived in complete poverty, simply to avoid asking for help.

She saved on food, bought the cheapest medicines, and wore old clothes left over from times gone by.

There was no sign in the room that anyone cared.

I hugged my mother and said, “Enough. Now you’re not alone anymore.”

That same day I decided that my sister should answer for what she did.

She lived off me for three years—buying new clothes, going to restaurants, posting pictures of a beautiful life, while our mother rotted in her own apartment. 😢😢

This is what I did. I’m telling my story, and you tell me: did I do the right thing?

I sold the house that was once in my name and the car — also mine.

All the bank cards I sent money to I immediately unlocked and took control of.

My sister was left penniless.

When she found out, she called me hysterically. She screamed and threatened:

— What did you do?! How could you leave me with nothing?! You had no right!

I replied coldly:

“Shut up. Otherwise, I’ll go to the police and tell them everything. How you deceived me and left our sick mother to her own devices.”

Silence on the other end of the line. I knew she was scared.

My sister was left with nothing. And to be honest, I don’t feel sorry for her.
